EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a form of psychotherapy that helps people process and heal from traumatic experiences or distressing memories. It is often used to treat conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, phobias, and other psychological difficulties related to traumatic events.

During an EMDR session, a therapist guides the individual through a series of eye movements, sounds, or taps, while the person recalls distressing memories or situations. These bilateral stimulations are designed to stimulate the brain’s natural healing process and facilitate the reprocessing of the traumatic memorieThe goal of EMDR therapy is to help the person reprocess the traumatic memories in a way that reduces the distress associated with them. This process involves connecting the traumatic memories with more adaptive and positive thoughts and beliefs. By doing so, the negative emotions and sensations associated with the traumatic event can become less intense and more manageable.

EMDR therapy incorporates various techniques, including cognitive restructuring, relaxation exercises, and mindfulness, to support the individual’s healing process. It is important to note that EMDR therapy should be conducted by a trained and licensed therapist who specialises in this approach. The number of sessions required varies depending on the individual and the nature of their concerns, but it typically involves several sessions spread out over time. 

 

Telehealth or Online Therapy Sessions

Our telehealth or online therapy sessions are fully compliant with health regulations for in-person appointments and is a successful option for people continuing treatment without physically coming into the clinic such as those who require self-isolation.  Our Telehealth Consent Form outlines further considerations in the delivery of psychological treatment via telehealth and is required to be completed prior to treatment commencement.
